Female wrestler Sweet Saraya missing

A Norwich woman wrestling champion and former pub landlady has sparked a police hunt after going missing from her home for more than a week.

Julia Hamer, 33, better known as flame-haired wrestler Sweet Saraya, was last seen by her husband and fellow wrestler Ricky Knight at their home in the area of The Avenues in the city last Saturday evening.

Concern is mounting for her safety and police last night made an appeal to her to let them know she is safe and issued her photograph.

She is described as 5ft 6in tall, of thin build, with read shoulder length hair and pale complexion.

As Sweet Saraya, she was the World Association of Wrestling British Women’s Champion in 2002 and has been dubbed the First Lady of British Wrestling.

Her career began after she met he future husband Mr. Knight, while working at Pontin’s at Hemsby.

She began as manageress to his tag-team the Superflys, but later trained as a wrestler herself.

In 2002 she was declared bankrupt by Norwich County Court, but reassured her fans that the order would not affect her career.

She told the court the debts had arisen as a result of vandalism at The Wrestlers’ Arms pub on Vauxhall Street in Norwich, which had left her with costly repair bills. She had then found herself owing £4500 in business rates to Norwich City Council.

Ms Hamer lives with her husband, children and step-children at an address near The Avenues.
