The Wrestling Channel: Deal Signed With Cage Warriors

The following is a press release taken from TWC’s Forums:

London, November 30th 2005

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Wrestling Channel are delighted to announce that they have stuck a deal with Cagewarriors Fighting Championships and Warrior Promotions, to commence broadcasts of Cagewarriors shows on the Sky Digital Channel. TWC broadcasts in the Sports EPG on Channel 427 and continues to broaden its output with the new Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) programming from the UK’s premiere Ultimate Fighting Company. Cage Warriors will sit alongside the recently signed “Big Brawl”, a boxing competition aimed at giving the average man a chance to see if they have what it takes to step into the ring.

This change in direction has also led TWC to seek out other avenues and Cagewarriors are delighted that they have decided to pick-up our unique form of Mixed Martial Arts/Ultimate Fighting which has been in existence since the summer of 2002.

As part of the deal TWC will be showing events from Cagewarriors’ back catalogue starting with Cagewarriors 3 which took place in Southampton back in March 2003. This event will be shown this Friday at 9pm, December 2nd, and will be followed next Friday, December 9th by Cagewarriors 4:UK vs. France . This event took place in July of 2003.

Cagewarriors and TWC are also proud to announce that events’ from Cagewarriors’ flagship “Strike Force” brand will also be shown. The UK TV premiere for Strike Force will be on December 11th 2005, when viewers will be treated to the debut of Cagewarriors Strike Force 1, which took place at the Skydome Arena, Coventry in May this year. This groundbreaking show set new standards for MMA in the UK and attracted a record audience to see a card which consisted of 10 UK vs. France bouts and featured a highly anticipated and controversial Middleweight Title bout, a Cage Kickboxing bout featuring Michael “The Count” Bisping and the return of local hero Barrington Patterson. This will be shown as part of TWC’s “Supercard Sunday” series broadcast at 8pm on December 11th.

In the coming months a variety of Cagewarriors events and features will be shown on TWC as they attempt not only to introduce the various Cagewarriors franchises on their channel but also spread the word of UK MMA to their traditional audience which has not experienced UK MMA, whilst also reaching out to a new audience themselves. Programmes will run on a weekly basis, most likely as part of a Friday night fight package.

Sean Herbert, Director of Programming at TWC says “TWC is delighted to be able to introduce Cage Warriors and MMA to the TWC audience. This is part of our process of broadening the Channels’ output to our existing audience whilst appealing to new viewers with this innovative and exciting sport.”

Andy Lillis, Vice President of Cage Warriors says “Cage Warriors and Warrior Promotions are thrilled to make this step into UK digital television. We look forward to our partnership with TWC and bringing MMA and Ultimate Fighting to an even bigger audience”
