ALL STAR GRAPPLEVINE presented by RUSSELL PLUMMER

UPDATE MARCH 1ST 2006

STEVE SONIC CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH A SUCCESSFUL HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE DEFENCE
Steve Sonic provided an emphatic answer to those who dismissed his British Heavyweight Championship success in January as a one-off fluke by coming through a first title defence with flying colours. Sonic delighted fans at the Victoria Hall, Hanley, Stoke on Trent, last Saturday when he celebrated his 23rd birthday by storming to a return clash victory over former number one ‘Highlander’ Drew McDonald.

When Sonic, alias Reading’s Steve Lewington, seized his title chance as a last minute January replacement for Robbie  Brookside, he came out on top in a Ladder Match. But at Hanley it was a traditional style clash with Sonic again showing his enormous potential by winning by the odd fall in three in the ninth round of twelve. Afterwards he was not only re-united with the impressive championship belt but was also presented with a special birthday cake by former ‘Queen of the Ring’ Miss Mitzi Mueller.

Having given the ‘Highlander’ the re-match he demanded following the Croydon defeat, next in line to challenge the champion is another former title holder, Liverpool’s Robbie Brookside. The long haired Merseysider turned on Sonic after a February tag bout which they started as partners and insists he should be next in line after missing the originally scheduled showdown with McDonald when his wife Fern was rushed to hospital on the afternoon of the clash.

All Star are now pulling out all the stops to include the Sonic versus Brookside showdown in their next ‘Super Sunday’ event at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, in the afternoon of Sunday April 2nd when there’s a start time of 3pm. This is the preferred venue for both men but the All Star say there still some formalities to be sorted out, including what form the match will take, before a definite go-ahead is confirmed.

DYNAMITE SENDS XTREME DEAN TO HOSPITAL AS BRITISH TAG TEAM TITLES CHANGE HANDS
We have fresh British Tag Team title holders after the controversial new combination of Robbie ‘The Body’ Dynamite and ‘Chippendale’ Mikey Whiplash ended the reign of the UK Dream Team of Kid Cool and Xtreme Dean Allmark. But that’s only half the story after a weekend clash in which the long-standing personal rivalry between Dynamite and Dean became so bitter the latter ended up in hospital with a head gash that needed nine stitches.

Exchanges between the pair who were once training partners have become more and more acrimonious and old hands at ringside are even comparing the ferocity of exchanges between them to the days when Mick McManus and the late Jackie Pallo were going at it hammer and tongs back in the 1960s. Dean has been left to lick his wounds but told Grapplevine: ‘Dynamite may have won this battle but not the war. Kid Cool and I will be back and they needn’t get attached to those belts as we aim to win them back, and soon!’

Subject to Dean’s fitness, a return clash could take place during All Star’s next Hanley bill at the Victoria Hall on Saturday March 18th. Watch this space for confirmation and, in the meantime, bookings can now be made by calling 0870-0606649.

Before then Dynamite and Whiplash will be in action at the Alban Arena, St.Albans this Friday (March 3rd) when they certainly won’t be able to rest on their laurels as opposition will come from none-other than the ‘Liverpool Lads’ combination of Robbie Brookside and Frankie Sloan. Top solo clashes will see James Mason facing ring vampire Gangrel and Steve Sonic targeting the Candian Widowmaker, the long haired rule-bender from Winnipeg who has decided to extend his tour until at least the end of March. St.Albans bell time is 7.30pm and for bookings call the Alban Arena on 01727-844438.

KLONDYKE KATE DEMANDS HARDCORE SHOWDOWN WITH MAN EATER LUNA
American ladies wrestling icon Miss Luna Vachon chose the wrong time and the wrong place when parading the WWE Ladies Hardcore Championship Belt around the ring at the Victoria Hall, Hanley, last Saturday. It was like a red rag to a bull as far as the Potteries’ own battling sensation Klondyke Kate was concerned and no one could stop Kate from storming forward to slap down a challenge.

‘There was no way I was going to let that woman strut around in my home town. She can come back with the belt and give me a title shot and then we’ll see what will happen’ said Kate. And All Star confirm that ‘Hell in Boots’ Kate will get her chance in a Hardcore World Title clash with Luna during Hanley’s end of season spectacular at the Victoria Hall on Saturday March 18th.

The arrival of Luna, who is, of course, the wife of white shirted hell raiser Gangrel, has also tempted another home star back into action. Although Miss Lisa Fury had decided to take a break from competition, the presence of Luna has a prompted a comeback and on Saturday a Lisa versus Luna matching is one of the featured con
