CBlog XII- Hardy, McMahon, & SummerSlam

I know it’s been awhile, but there hasn’t been a whole ton of things to discuss as of late. With that said, I’ll start on the topic of Mr. McMahon’s return to TV on tonight’s (Monday, August 6) RAW. There’s no question that the ‘Mr. McMahon Strikes Back’ angle is a ploy for ratings and WWE needs them (bar the Nielson mistake(s), but they still weren’t getting good numbers, I don’t think). I’ve read that tonight’s RAW is supposed to be a “reset” of sorts for the WWE (a new era or starting over or whatever). It should be interesting.

Onto a bit of news that I am disappointed about and that is the 30-day suspension of Jeff Hardy. From what I’ve read, it’s due to “lack of maturity”, which is a little bit of good news in a way, meaning that he isn’t suspended for drugs. I’ve always been a fan of the Hardys, both as a tag team and in singles competition. Unfortunately for Jeff, whenever he returns, I fear he is going to have to work his way back up the WWE ladder again. Take Randy Orton for example- he got suspended around May or June of last year and he’s just recently climbed back up to the main event spot (thanks to Triple H). Granted, Orton hit a bit of a snag when he had that drunken tirade a couple months ago. I am still an Orton fan, don’t get me wrong, and I am praying for Orton to take the title from Cena. Believe it or not, in a month or so, on September 17’th, Cena would have/will have held the title for a full year. I don’t care how it is done, but Orton has to take the title off of Cena. I will go on record of saying that Orton WILL win the WWE Title at SummerSlam and end the painful era of “The Champ” (at least for now). Once Orton is WWE Champion, its all good from there, as I’ve read that Triple H may very well take the title from Orton. I’m a big Trips mark as well, so hopefully everything will go smooth.

On the subject of Triple H (and SummerSlam), I am absolutely ecstatic for his return. I may not always agree with what Triple H does backstage, but I will forever enjoy and be fan of the character of Triple H. As far as Rey Mysterio’s return (which if you watched SmackDown! this past Friday, will occur at SummerSlam in a match against Chavo Guerrero), I’m less than ecstatic, but it should make for some good episodes of SmackDown, I hope. For the record, I am predicting Rey to win his return match.

Unfortunately on Friday, we also found out that Khali will defend the World Title against Batista at SummerSlam. I’ve heard and read rumors that the Khali/Batista matches at house shows were being given BS endings due to the lack of talent of Khali and Batista. So putting these two atrocities on a live pay-per-view, not to mention one of the “Big Four” for WWE, is just a big mistake by the WWE. Some may disagree, but I think Kane not only deserves a title shot instead of Batista, I think Kane deserves a run with the World Title (especially since he’s had only one World Title run and that was with the WWE Title in 1998 and his reign lasted a whopping 24 hours). While I believe that putting the World Title on Rey Mysterio is a big mistake (and was a big mistake), I am predicting that if anyone takes the title from Khali, it will be Mysterio. The smallest beating the biggest. It’s either going to be Rey Mysterio or The Undertaker. I am, obviously, pulling for The Undertaker to regain the World Title on or after his rumored return at Unforgiven. It makes sense to me to have Undertaker pick up where he left off and have him resume his lengthy reign as champion. I expect ‘Taker to be in a “revenge match” for his return at Unforgiven, however (much like Rey/Chavo at SummerSlam). Of course if this occurs, it will be against Mark Henry. I also imagine Taker will feud with Edge when he returns towards the end of the year (November, I believe). I am already an Undertaker mark, but if he returns at SummerSlam with the American Badass gimmick, I might just mark out like a girl or a little kid during a Cena match.

While WWE had taken some serious blows this year thus far, it looks like they have a stellar fall prepared. With the return of Triple H & Rey Mysterio at SummerSlam, Undertaker at Unforgiven, and Edge at some time in November, they just may finish the year off on top of the world. 2007 has been pretty rough on the WWE with the whole Benoit tragedy, the steroid scandal(s), and the injury plague, so hopefully, they will get back on track (possibly starting with tonight’s RAW).

Just a small comment- who cares about “Pacman” Jones coming to TNA? Why is this such a big deal? Sorry, had to get it off my chest.

Until next time…

“Painful era”. Yeah, I can see WWE writhing in pain at how much money they’re making.
