‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper talks about Vince, Hogan and more

Roddy Piper expressed disappointment that he couldn’t be part of Ric Flair‘s retirement weekend. "That was the saddest time in my career," Piper told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "The greatest wrestler in the world and I wasn’t there for him. You’ve got to give me more than two days notice. You can’t call me every fourth month and expect me to be there."

Piper added that he was working on the film Clear Lake in Winnipeg and was unable to accept the company’s invitation.

Poughkeepsie Journal writer Phil Strum included additional comments in his blog that didn’t make the cut for the story wrote on Roddy Piper, who turns 53 today (17th April). Piper said all the wrestlers who jumped to the WWF in the ’80s were greeted with the same line by Vince McMahon. "Roddy Piper," he said while impersonating McMahon. "We’d like you to come in and you’re the chosen one. Paul Orndorff. We’d like you to come in and you’re the chosen one. Mr. Fuji. We’d like you to come in and you’re the chosen one…"

"Little did we all know, some bald guy (Hulk Hogan) would come in and get the spot," continued Piper. "It was an unbelievable time in my sport. We had the most rebellious guys on any turf." To read the full interview, visit www.Pojoslam.blogspot.com.
