This Week In WWE: Edition LXIII
July 12, 2009- July 18, 2009

Welcome to the sixty-third edition of This Week In WWE. Feel free to contact me on TWO or Wrestling 101 anytime with comments, questions, and anything in between. I have added a new section at the end of the article highlighting a different WWE Superstar or Diva every week. Please contact me if you have a request for a Superstar or Diva you would like to see highlighted in an upcoming edition.

The 842nd edition of Monday Night RAW came to you, live, from the Amway Arena in Orlando, FL. RAW would have a special Guest Host in the form of actor, comedian, and television star- Seth Green! How would the creator of "Robot Chicken" mix things up on RAW?

Monday Night RAW
Good Week For: Seth Green (survived his night as Guest Host of RAW)
Bad Week For: Primo (had his own brother spit in his face after losing to The Miz)

And In Other News…

The show kicked off with one of the two challengers for the WWE Championship in the Triple Threat Match at Night of Champions, "The Game" Triple H, who reminded everyone of the Guest Host concept on RAW that was implemented by Donald Trump in his one week ownership of Monday Night RAW. Triple H then introduced RAW’s special Guest Host for the evening, Seth Green. The amped up Guest Host came out and wasted no time in making decisions as Guest Host as he announced a 6-Diva Summer Swimsuit Spectacular on RAW! After showing a clip from the upcoming season premiere of his series, "Robot Chicken", that featured Triple H himself. After the clip, Green commented to Triple H about "The Game" referring to Randy Orton as a "whiny, little girl" during the production of the episode. This brings out the WWE Champion, Randy Orton. Orton gets into the ring and tells "The Game" that he has something that Triple H does not- the WWE Title. Orton then threatens Seth Green by telling Green about his "anger problems". Always one to be the bully, Orton calls the Guest Host "pathetically small". Triple H gets in the face of "The Viper" and Triple H recommends that Green make Triple H Vs. Randy Orton the main event on RAW. Orton disagrees and states that it would not be necessary for him to face Triple H since he will be beating both Triple H & John Cena at the Night of Champions. Triple H then threatens to drop Orton right then and there. Faced with this challenge, Orton decides to back off. However, before he leaves, Orton tells Seth Green that the only reason that he is the Guest Host on RAW is so that someone might accidentally mistake him for a man. After being called "pathetically small" and having his manhood questioned, Green stopped Orton and informed the WWE Champion that Orton & Legacy would be facing the team of Triple H & John Cena in the main event! Not only that, but Triple H & John Cena would have a tag team partner, none other than Seth Green himself! Does Seth Green realize what he has gotten himself into? Could Green possibly survive the night in one piece?

As announced by Guest Host, Seth Green, RAW had a 6-Diva Summer Swimsuit Spectacular where the team of Divas Champion Maryse, Rosa Mendes, & Alicia Fox defeated the team of the #1 Contender for the Divas Title, Mickie James, Gail Kim, & Kelly Kelly with Maryse getting the pin on her #1 Contender. Can "The French Vixen" hang on to her Divas Title at Night of Champions or will Mickie James win the gold?

Backstage, Seth Green is confronted by one-half of the Unified Tag Team Champions, Chris Jericho. The always unhappy Chris Jericho calls the Guest Host a "hypocrite" and a "drone". Green responds by telling Jericho that, if he is going to talk to him like that, then Jericho should leave; maybe even leave the arena. Jericho refuses and says that he has "something to say" and he will say it whether Green likes it or not. What will Jericho have to say? Will it be about the future of the Unified Tag Team Titles now that his partner, Edge, is injured?

In the ring, an emotional Primo calls out his older brother, Carlito, to address the attack he received from Carlito last week. However, Primo did not get Carlito, instead he got his opponent, The Miz, who calls Primo the "rejected brother". The end of the match came when Carlito made his way to ringside and distracted his younger brother long enough for The Miz to pick up the win over Primo. After the match was over, Carlito stood over Primo and spit in the face of his younger brother! What is the cause of this sudden hatred for his little brother? How will Primo respond to Carlito’s actions?

Backstage, RAW’s Guest Host, Seth Green, informs Hornswoggle that Hornswoggle will be having a rematch against Chavo Guerrero on RAW! Green told the worried Hornswoggle that Chavo will have one hand tied behind his back in the match!

Following their intense confrontation in The VIP Lounge last week, MVP and Jack Swagger faced off on RAW. In the end, it was "The All-American American" Jack Swagger hitting his signature powerbomb and pinning "The Ballin’ Superstar" to pick up the win.

Unified Tag Team Champion Chris Jericho then comes out and addresses Edge’s injury and the status of the Unified Tag Team Titles. Jericho proclaims that he is the sole holder of the Unified Tag Team Titles for the time being. Jericho wastes no time in turning on his, now, former partner by calling Edge "fragile" and saying that he was the "weak link" of the team. Jericho stated that he can not defend the Unified Tag Team Titles by himself against Legacy at the Night of Champions, nor will he be reliquishing the championship. Jericho then shows the contract for the title match at Night of Champions and he reveals that he put a stipulation in the contract that allowed him to pick a "replacement" for Edge in the event that Edge is injured! Jericho said that he would announce Edge’s "replacement" at the Night of Champions and that his new partner would be someone who shares many of the same characteristics that he possesses. "The World’s Strongest Man" Mark Henry comes out and tells Jericho that they would be a "great team", but he did not come out there to be Jericho’s partner. Henry then reveals that he came out there to be Jericho’s opponent! Mark Henry then attacked Jericho and knocked Jericho out of the ring! A referee then entered the ring. It was later revealed that Seth Green had made the match between the two after Jericho disrespected the Guest Host earlier on. After much hesitation, Chris Jericho got into the ring with "The World’s Strongest Man" and the match began. However, Jericho opted to leave the ring and take the count-out loss as opposed to facing Mark Henry. For the second week in a row, Mark Henry has intimidated his opponent to the point where the opposition decided to get intentionally counted out. What’s next for "The World’s Strongest Man"? Who will step up and face Henry?

"The Mexican Warrior" Chavo Guerrero was forced to tie one hand behind his back when he faced Hornswoggle. For the second time in a row, Chavo was embarassed with a loss to Hornswoggle.

With United States Champion Kofi Kingston on commentary, Evan Bourne faced the almost impossible task of chopping the down the giant redwood that is Big Show. Big Show absolutely demolished the high-flier; nearly splitting Bourne in half with a half-ton Spear. Big Show then locked in his modified Camel Clutch, which he now calls the "Colossal Clutch", and forced the much smaller Evan Bourne to submit. After the match, Big Show refused to release the hold on Bourne, which prompted Kofi Kingston to intervene. Kofi actually got Big Show to not only release the hold, but Kofi kicked Big Show right out of the ring! What will happen when these two go one-on-one this Thursday on WWE Superstars? Will "The World’s Largest Athlete" Big Show destroy Kofi Kingston like he did Evan Bourne or will the United States Champion find a way to take down the behemoth?

Before the Guest Host of RAW, Seth Green, climbed into the ring in the main event, it was announced that next week’s Guest Hosts will be two of the most recognizable men with two of the most recognizable beards in the world, none other than a pair of "sharp dressed men" ZZ Top! What will happen when the legendary rock duo are in charge of Monday Night RAW?

Then it was time for the 6-Man Tag main event as WWE Champion Randy Orton & Legacy squared off with the team of Triple H, Randy Orton, and RAW’s Guest Host, Seth Green. Needless to say, it was Triple H & John Cena’s job to keep Seth Green out of the match and out of harm’s way. However, after Legacy and John Cena fought to the outside, Randy Orton delivered the RKO to Triple H. It looked like Randy Orton would pin "The Game" until Triple H received an unlikely assist from Seth Green! The actor/comedian broke up the pinfall attempt and was quickly face-to-face with "The Viper" Randy Orton! After a kick to the mid-section, Orton was prepared to punt the skull of Seth Green like he had done so many others. Fortunately for Green, John Cena quickly saved the Guest Host by attacking Orton. Among the fray, Cody Rhodes brings a steel chair into the ring to help out his mentor, but Triple H comes in with his trusty sledgehammer and knocks the chair out of Rhodes’ hands! Triple H then narrowly missed blasting John Cena in the head with the sledgehammer! Triple H and John Cena stared at each other until Seth Green came back into the ring and all three celebrated the survival of Seth Green and getting the better of Randy Orton & Legacy. What will happen next week on the last stop before the Night of Champions? What will happen when ZZ Top is in charge of Monday Night RAW next week?

The 162nd edition of ECW on SyFy came to you from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. The main event of ECW would see ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer face off with Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title match.

ECW on SyFy
Good Week For: Vladimir Kozlov (pinned the ECW Champion and left champion and challenger laid out)
Bad Week For: Christian (lost to Shelton Benjamin and laid out by Vladimir Kozlov)

And In Other News…

The opening match of the night featured the #1 Contender for the ECW Title at the Night of Champions, Christian, squaring off with "The Gold Standard" Shelton Benjamin. In the middle of the competitive match, "The Moscow Militant" Vladimir Kozlov came out and distracted Christian, which gave "The Gold Standard" the advantage in the match up and ultimately led to Shelton Benjamin pinning the #1 Contender for the win! Now that Shelton Benjamin has pinned the #1 Contender, where does that put "The Gold Standard" in title contention? How will Christian respond to Vladimir Kozlov’s interference?

One of ECW’s newest Superstars, Yoshi Tatsu, picked up a big win over "The Ripper" Paul Burchill, despite some help from Paul’s sister, Katie Lea Burchill. What will we see next from this exciting new Superstars?

ECW also saw the ECW debut of "The Bizarre One" Goldust, but it was not a joyous occasion for the former Intercontinental Champion as "The Long Island Loudmouth" Zack Ryder picked up a big win over the ring veteran.

It was announced on ECW that, on next week’s show, "The So-Cal Surfer" Tyler Reks will make his ECW in-ring debut. Who will Reks face on next week’s ECW? Can he pick up the first win in his WWE career?

"The Celtic Warrior" Sheamus dominated another opponent on ECW; this time it was Roman Cornell, who did not stand a chance against Sheamus.

On next week’s ECW, Abraham Washington will host the biggest "Abraham Washington Show" yet as the talk show host will have both ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer & #1 Contender Christian in the ring at the same time just five days before they face off for the ECW Championship at the Night of Champions. What will the always insulting Abraham Washington have to say to the champion and challenger and how does Washington plan to keep order on his show? What will happen between Dreamer & Christian just five days before the Night of Champions?

Then it was time for the main event as ECW Champion Tommy Dreamer was faced with the task of combating "The Russian Militant" Vladimir Kozlov in a non-title bout. In the end, it was the overwhelming power and skill of Kozlov that allowed "The Moscow Mauler" to pin the ECW Champion! After the match, the vicious Kozlov continued his assault on Tommy Dreamer. The #1 Contender, Christian, ran in to get a piece of Kozlov, but Kozlov dodged a shot by "Captain Charisma" and Christian inadvertently knocked Dreamer down. Kozlov then laid Christian out in the middle of the ring. Kozlov pinned the ECW Champion and then laid out both the champion and challenger for the ECW Championship match at Night of Champions; what does this mean for the match at Night of Champions?

The 14th edition of WWE Superstars came to you from the Amway Arena in Orlando, FL and from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. On the show, United States Champion Kofi Kingston would square off with "The World’s Largest Athlete" Big Show in a non-title match. In the "rubber match" of their feud, Cryme Tyme would face The Hart Dynasty. Also, Brie Bella would face "The Scarlet Witch" Katie Lea Burchill.

WWE Superstars
Good Week For: Cryme Tyme (bested The Hart Dynasty with some help from Eve Torres)
Bad Week For: Kofi Kingston (got demolished by Big Show)

And In Other News…

The opening match of the night was from SmackDown and it saw Cryme Tyme defeat The Hart Dynasty in the "rubber match" of their rivalry. However, "The Bling Bling Brothers" would not have been able to get the win had it not been for the help of their good friend, Eve Torres. Eve prevented Natalya from interfering in the match, which gave Cryme Tyme the opportunity to win the match. Is this the end of the rivalry between these two teams or has it just begun?

Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio made a special appearance on WWE Superstars and "The Master of the 619" reminded everyone of his successful title defense against Chris Jericho on last week’s SmackDown. Rey stated that he "enjoyed" defeating Jericho, but his celebration was short-lived as he was attacked and laid out by Dolph Ziggler, who Rey referred to as a "coward". This motivated Dolph Ziggler to interrupt and told Rey that Rey will never forget the name Dolph Ziggler after his attack last week. Rey responds by calling Dolph a "peacock" and telling the egotistical Superstar that he has defeated "better" men than Dolph. Rey then "invites" Ziggler to come into the ring, but Ziggler refuses, saying that he will fight Rey on "his terms". Dolph then officially lays down the gauntlet and challenges Rey Mysterio to a match for the Intercontinental Championship at Night of Champions. Never one to back away from a fight, Rey accepted the challenge! Rey then vowed to prove that Ziggler is not on his "level" come Night of Champions. Rey then, once again, challenges Dolph to come into the ring. This time, "The Name Dropper" approaches the ring, but decides to back away. Rey exits the ring and pursues Ziggler! Dolph escapes Rey momentarily by rushing into the ring, however the quick Rey Mysterio caught Dolph and got some shots in before Ziggler made his hasty escape, running from the Intercontinental Champion. What will happen when these two square off at Night of Champions with the Intercontinental Championship on the line? Will Dolph Ziggler take a leap in his career and take the Intercontinental Title from the veteran champion, Rey Mysterio or will Rey prove that Dolph is not on his level by defeating "The Name Dropper" in Philadelphia?

After losing to a Bella last week on ECW, "The Sinister Sibling" Katie Lea Burchill squared off with Brie Bella in ECW’s contribution to Superstars. While it was supposed to be Brie Bella in the match, the Bella Twins once again used their "trick" to get the advantage and win the match. During the match, Brie Bella was thrown to the outside of the ring. With the referee’s attention on Katie Lea Burchill, Nikki laid down beside her twin sister so that the referee would not be able to determine which Bella was which. Then both Bellas entered the ring and the referee made the call and sent a Bella out of the ring; however, the Bella he sent out was Brie. In the ring, Nikki then rolled up Katie Lea Burchill to win the match for her twin sister!

Then it was time for the main event, from RAW, as United States Champion Kofi Kingston stepped up to the challenging task of combating "The World’s Largest Athlete" Big Show in a non-title match. Kofi put up a valiant effort, but Big Show was just too much for Kofi to handle as Big Show planted the United States Champion with a chokeslam and picked up the win. With Night of Champions approaching, has Big Show punched his ticket to be Kofi’s opposition for the United States Championship? What about Evan Bourne? The high-flyer also has a non-title victory over the champion. Who will Kofi face at Night of Champions and can he leave with the prestigious United States Championship?

The 517th edition of WWE SmackDown came to you from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. The show would see the team of #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title, Jeff Hardy, team with the Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio to combat the team of Unified Tag Team Champion Chris Jericho and the #1 Contender for the Intercontinental Title, Dolph Ziggler. In a rematch from a few weeks ago, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk would square off with John Morrison in a non-title match. There would also be an exclusive interview with Edge.

Friday Night SmackDown
Good Week For: John Morrison (pinned the World Heavyweight Champion for a second time)
Bad Week For: Jeff Hardy (was cost the main event by CM Punk and was tortured in the Walls of Jericho)

And In Other News…

SmackDown kicked off with an appearance by the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title in nine nights at the Night of Champions, Jeff Hardy. The #1 Contender states that everyone makes mistakes and he has admitted to his. Jeff then says that he has not failed a drug test in a year’s time and that he "self-healed" as opposed to going to rehab. CM Punk interrupts and tells Jeff that "not failing a drug test for a year" is not an accomplishment. The World Heavyweight Champion then says that Jeff does not listen and calls the #1 Contender a "joke". Jeff proclaims that he will be the next World Heavyweight Champion come Night of Champions. Punk responds by telling "The Extreme Enigma" that Jeff can not beat him because he is "straightedge" and that he will still be World Heavyweight Champion a year from now and that Jeff will fall back into his old "vices". Punk then calls Jeff a "statistic" before Jeff heard enough and shoved the World Heavyweight Champion to the mat. CM Punk exited the ring and told Jeff that he was going to be the bigger man and, at Night of Champions, he will tear Jeff Hardy apart. Will CM Punk prove that being "straightedge" makes him better than Jeff Hardy or will "The Charismatic Enigma" take the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk and prove that he is truly rehabilitated from his past "mistakes"?

The World Heavyweight Champion also had a match on his hands as he squared off with "The Guru of Greatness" John Morrison in a rematch from a few weeks ago. Just like their last encounter, John Morrison outmaneuvered CM Punk and pinned the World Heavyweight Champion for the second time! After the match was over, John Morrison extended his hand to the champion in a show of good sportsmanship. CM Punk refused the proposal and rolled out of the ring. John Morrison seems to have the champion’s number; when will Morrison get his shot at the gold?

Miami’s own, Layla, made a special appearance on SmackDown and entertained the Miami fans by doing a special dance routine from her days with the Miami Heat. However, Ricky Ortiz interrupted the display and told Layla that she needs to "rally up" and hands a rally towel to Layla. Layla responds by throwing the towel to the ground and exiting the ring.

"The Big Red Machine" Kane was in action as he squared off with R-Truth. The end of the match came when R-Truth tried to deliver a maneuver off of the top rope, but Kane caught R-Truth with a big boot and picked up the win. After the match, The Great Khali came out and made his way to the ring. With Kane’s attention on "The Punjabi Nightmare", R-Truth hit a missile dropkick on "The Big Red Machine". The Great Khali entered the ring, but Kane made another hasty escape from The Great Khali. When will Khali finally get his hands on Kane?

In a 6-Person Mixed Tag Match, The Hart Dynasty defeated the team of Cryme Tyme & Eve Torres. What’s next in this heated rivalry between these two teams?

SmackDown also had an exclusive interview with a recuperating Edge. The nine-time World Champion revealed that his Achilles tendon injury could mean the end of his career, stating that an Achilles tendon injury is the worst possible injury that an athlete could sustain. "The Rated-R Superstar" said that he will do his best to recover from the injury and return to the WWE and become a champion again. Edge’s former partner, Chris Jericho, interrupted the interview and told his former tag team championship partner that Edge does not care about the Unified Tag Titles, the WWE, or about Chris Jericho. Jericho said that he would find a partner who is "better" than Edge and that, unlike Edge, he has "earned" every championship he has ever won. Jericho then calls Edge "weak" and "injury-prone" and that he is too "tough" to get injured. Edge responds by telling Jericho that, when he comes back, he will prove all of the doubters wrong. Will we ever see Edge compete in the WWE? If so, will "The Rated-R Superstar" target his former partner, Chris Jericho?

Before the tag team main event featuring Jeff Hardy & Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio taking on Unified Tag Team Champion Chris Jericho & Dolph Ziggler was set to begin, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk made his way to ringside. During the match, the tag team match broke down with Jeff Hardy and Chris Jericho going to the outside. On the outside, Jeff Hardy tried to throw Chris Jericho into CM Punk. However, CM Punk was able to get out of the way. After Jeff Hardy had turned his attention back to the ring, CM Punk shoved Chris Jericho into Jeff Hardy, which resulted in Jeff Hardy colliding with the steel steps. The match was over with Chris Jericho & Dolph Ziggler getting the victory by disqualification, but the chaos was not over as Dolph Ziggler used a baseball slide to knock Rey Mysterio down on the outside. Ziggler then hit his signature finisher on Mysterio on the outside of the ring. Chris Jericho then throws Jeff Hardy into the ring and hits the Codebreaker on the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Title. Jericho then locks the Walls of Jericho in on Jeff Hardy as World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk watched all of it take place. As Jericho continued the torture on Jeff Hardy, CM Punk made his exit. What kind of condition will Jeff Hardy be in for the World Heavyweight Title match at the Night of Champions? Has Chris Jericho given CM Punk the edge for the championship match?
