Vivendi Entertainment issued a press release announcing that they have
acquired Genius Products, Inc., who happen to own the distribution rights of
World Wrestling Entertainment home video products. WWE switched to Genius
years ago after dropping Sony as their distributors in return of a better
deal however Genius has been posting bad numbers lately and the deal was not
a surprise. As part of this acquisition, Genius Products will continue
operations and has entered into a new multi-year distribution deal with
Vivendi Entertainment to distribute Genius’ remaining catalog and future
releases. The press release also outlines WWE’s success in the DVD market,
saying, "The Genius transaction encompasses the distribution rights for a
wide array of home entertainment offerings, including: World Wrestling
Entertainment with its many consistently chart-topping releases including
the perennial best seller WrestleMania series."
