What do the Rev. Al Sharpton, John Cena and Triple H have in common? They’ll all be at Times Union Center in Albany for the latest installment of World Wrestling Entertainment’s “Monday Night Raw.”
Sharpton? That Sharpton? Yes, the one and only minister and politician who has courted controversy over the years will be the guest host for the night’s entertainment. Sharpton at the microphone, of course, is nothing new: He spoke at Michael Jackson’s memorial service recently and has his own radio show, which can be heard at SharptonTalk.net.
But wrestling? A publicist for WWE, Kevin Hennessy, says Sharpton’s current work on education reform dovetails nicely with WWE’s own campaign for youth literacy, Get R.E.A.L. Read at 1,800 libraries nationwide. (The R.E.A.L. stand for Respect, Education, Achievement, Leadership.)
