CBlog VIII- WWE Vengeance 2007
by Cassidy Haslett on 26 June 2007

I promised a review of what I thought of Vengeance: Night of Champions and I will. Although Vengeance isn’t even on the minds of anyone right now, I still believe it is worth mentioning and it’ll also help me to try and get this tragedy out of my mind.

The following contains spoilers for the Vengeance 2007: Night of Champions PPV from June 24, 2007

World Tag Team Championship:

Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch (c) def. The Hardys by Lance Cade pinning Jeff Hardy following a modified sitdown powerbomb to retain the World Tag Titles.

This was a decent match to watch, even though I didn’t see the first quarter of it or so. No surprise to me that Cade & Murdoch retained.

Cruiserweight Championship:

Chavo Guerrero (c) def. Jimmy Wang Yang by pin following the Frog Splash to retain the Cruiserweight Title.

Chavo’s first title defense since February’s No Way Out. I said it on TWO and I’ll say it again, look for Chavo’s next title defence in December at Armageddon.

ECW World Championship:

Johnny Nitro def. CM Punk by pin following a modified hangman’s noose neckbreaker to win the vacant ECW World Title.

This one was the second best match of the night, in my opinion (the first being the WWE Title Match). I was surprised that Nitro got the title. When I witnessed Nitro winning the title, I predicted that Chris Benoit would win the title from Nitro in the near future and I wish I could still say that.

Intercontinental Championship:

Santino Marella (c) def. Umaga by DQ to retain the Intercontinental Title.

I knew that this is how the match would go down, there was no other way to have Marella retain the title. I expect William Regal to take the title from Marella very soon.

United States Championship:

MVP (c) def. Ric Flair by pin f/ the Playmaker to retain the United States Title.

This was a very decent match between MVP and Flair. MVP in his first title defence since winning the U.S. Title at Judgment Day from the late, great Chris Benoit.

WWE Tag Team Championship: Open Challenge:

Deuce & Domino (c) def. Sgt. Slaughter & Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka by Domino rolling up Jimmy Snuka following the Superfly Splash to retain the WWE Tag Titles.

I always like to see legends in matches with current superstars. Slaughter looks to still be in great shape. I’m pretty sure that Domino did indeed pin his own (adopted) dad.

World Heavyweight Championship: Last Chance Match:

Edge (c) def. Batista by Count-Out to retain the World Heavyweight Title.

Originally Edge got intentionally disqualified to retain the title and I think it should’ve stayed that way, as it would’ve made the premise behind a “Last Chance Match” true, but in any case Edge retains by Count-Out. It’ll be interesting to see what WWE does with Batista from here.

Women’s Championship:

Candice def. Melina (c) by pin f/ a spinning heel kick to win the Women’s Title.

This was a surprise to me. To have Melina hold the Women’s Title is one thing, but to have the completely talentless Candice win the Women’s Title? This has to be some sort of punishment for Melina’s backstage attitude.

WWE Championship Challenge:

John Cena (c) def. Randy Orton, Lashley, King Booker, & Mick Foley by pinning Mick Foley following the F-U to retain the WWE Title.

This was the match of the night, in my mind. Whether you love or hate Cena, you had to enjoy that F-U through the announce table on Lashley. I expected Foley to get taken out by Orton through the course of the match and then Orton would ultimately get pinned, but in any case, Cena overcomes the impossible odds yet again to retain the WWE Title. I was personally hoping for Booker to win the title, but I knew he wouldn’t.

That’s all I got for this edition of the CBlog.
