I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen” stated by Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) when he lost his girlfriend (Ione Skye) in “Say Anything.” This is where I find myself in wrestling at many times throughout my life.

TNA “Genesis” gave me heart last Sunday by telling a great story outside the ring and inside. As the story spread its wings, it had me thinking, “this is perfection.” So, like a scavenger, I hit the websites to gather information and others’ opinions and found that “they shit on my house!”

Sting versus Abyss with James Mitchell was the best told story by Russo so far in his stint with TNA. Mitchell’s promos seeped with venom and distain. It was masterful in touching the spiritual essence of the storyline without offending “Highway to Hell.” Well, Sting went there and gave a great match. The storyline was so well crafted with sting bringing integrity back to the NWA title, and letting it poison him to win at any cost. Sting, for goodness sake, took a tack bump! Sure, the match was hurt by Sting taking so long to hang Abyss upside down, but if you think about it, the feat was still impressive, as he had to hold Abyss with one hand while latching him with the other. This was a prop snafu, but it still worked, as Sting showed the extent he would go to win.

The Samoa Joe and Angle match was electric, but for my money, Sting delivered on a night he could have tossed in his cards. An icon finally gave us a great match and his work was considered ho-hum. Sting has been a consummate pro. You never hear stories of him holding people down. He got screwed by Hogan coming to WCW, then Hogan killed two years of heat with one 3-count. Hogan didn’t want to job cleanly because he felt Sting wasn’t in top shape, according to Bischoff’s book “Controversy Creates Cash“.

Sting earned his paycheck, and I hope he will finally be treated better than a mid-carder match between two tag teams (The Naturals and Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal) that are not in his status. Jay Lethal and Dutt may one day be “X” stars, but never World Champs, and The Naturals are average cogs in the wrestling machine. Leave your bias out of it, and for one night let us praise Sting and Abyss, Mitchell, and Russo for giving us the best told story pre-match and match that could be seen in one night.

Russo and Sting, Darlin’ Danny Dunn saw your masterpiece and was enthralled.

It truly was a great night for all involved.
