UK Scene #93

I am back with you this week after a very topsy turvy set of weeks for myself and I hope this will be the start once again of the consistency you have come to expect. Thanks very much to Goldy once again for last weeks tremendous column I surely must have used up all my get out of jail free cards by now. This week we have more news regarding X-Wrestling, new training schools and all the build up to the biggest FWA event since Frontiers of Honour that being British Uprising II.

Once again this week X-Wrestling have stolen the headlines by adding more worldwide known talent to their line up for a show penciled in for April of next year. They started by announcing the Road Warriors and now they have added top US indy worker Reckless Youth, Ted DiBiase and NWA:TNA star Lollipop. The show will also feature UK talent although the UK Pitbulls have been the only UK stars named so far.

This is a very exciting time for X-Wrestling and the UK Scene as I am in doubt that more names will be added to the already growing list over the next few weeks now they have to follow through with the momentum with good promotion and most importantly a good event. I always like to see more live shows and new promotions start up so I always want every new promotion to be successful and I have no doubt that this one could be.

There are big pitfalls the company will have to battle against through the next few months as the event draws ever nearer. Setting the right budget is very important as at the end of the day if you are putting in the money that X-Wrestling probably are you have to make it back. So they mustn’t go too crazy with the amount of US talent they bring over as more US imports doesn’t always mean more bums on seats. The biggest hurdle I feel will be getting people to open their minds and be supportive of the group as with everything which has gone down in the UK with Similar shows like Wrestlexpress and GWF they may find people less willing to pass over the money for a show like this. I wish them all the best though and hope the event is a huge success. For more information go to: XWrestling.co.uk

FWA “British Uprising II” is now just round the corner after months of expectation the FWA will finally try and deliver like they normally do on the hype. This weekend sees the FWA go all out to beat last year’s show which they will have to go some to do. With the names they have added to the card and the matches they have announced I think they stand a very good chance of doing this and I must commend on the FWA for adding two more US stars after tickets had gone on sale which must have cost them an arm and a leg.

This event will also continue to help the FWA’s international relations as the FWA will showcase it’s first ever IWA Mid-South match as Colt Cabana goes against CM Punk which is run by Ian Rotten. To strengthen their link Jonny Storm will be heading out there in November to be part of the IWA Mid-South Ted Petty invitational tournament. The international growth of FWA knows no boundaries and I can only see the number of people wanting to do business with FWA increasing.

So here is how the card is looking for this Saturday’s event at the York Hall stands:

  • FWA Heavyweight Title:
    Doug Williams vs James Tighe

  • Justin Credible vs Jonny Storm

  • Homicide vs Jack Xavier

  • European Debuts International Guest Match :
    CM Punk vs Colt Cabana

  • FWA All-England Title:
    Zebra Kid vs Flash Barker

  • Careers on the line:
    The Family vs Ulf Herman

  • Handicap Match:
    Burchill vs Hampton Court

  • £10K Bounty Match:
    Nikita vs Mark Sloan

Tickets for this event can be purchased through Ticketmaster.co.uk and don’t forget about FanSlam III which takes place before the event at The Backyard comedy club which starts at 12pm the perfect way to start the day.

Enough of international relations though as UK relationships will be strengthen further this Sunday as Burchill invades Premier Promotions to go on one on one with Doug Williams in an FWA guest match for the Premier Promotions show in Cheshunt. This will be the first ever FWA guest match on a Premier Promotions show and the first time these two guys have met in the ring so this show sounds like the ultimate way to round off the Uprising weekend.

The big news coming out of NWA Hammerlock this week is that former IWS champion Dru Onyx is heading to the UK next week to be part of their upcoming tour. Dru is considered one of the best heavyweight Canadian Wrestlers on the world stage at the moment so it will be good to see how he does on the world stage.

NWA Hammerlock have been very busy this week as they have also announced the expanding of its training facilities to Essex. The School will be situated in Hornchurch, at the Origin Gym next to Jailhouse Rock just off Hornchurch High Street. So keep your ear to the ground if you live in the Essex area as the Hammerlock experience comes to your doorstep. I will announce more details on the school when I receive them.

There is some more good news for all you NWA:TNA fans as Jonny Storm will be heading back out to the states in November to work two PPV shows and with all the hype surrounding NWA:TNA at the moment it looks like it could be a good time for Jonny to shine. On top of this as mentioned earlier he will also be performing at the IWA Mid-South Ted Petty invitational so it looks like it could be a very busy trip with not much time to do any sight seeing for Jonny.

Hope everyone has a brilliant Uprising and No Mercy weekend. Remember to pop by the chatrooms from 9pm on Sunday for all the usual pre WWE PPV antics.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
