UK Scene #145

Hey guys and welcome and all to another look of seven days inside the UK Scene. This week I will be talking about the big TWC announcement of course I was right about what it was going to be but it wasn’t exactly rocket science. I will be also be talking about IPW:UK and their 2nd show which is coming very soon, the first jointly promoted FCW / WAR show and of course all the build up in the run up to British Uprising 3…

Hey guys and welcome and all to another look of seven days inside the UK Scene. This week I will be talking about the big TWC announcement of course I was right about what it was going to be but it wasn’t exactly rocket science. I will be also be talking about IPW:UK and their 2nd show which is coming very soon, the first jointly promoted FCW / WAR show and of course all the build up in the run up to British Uprising 3.

After a week on anticipation The Wrestling Channel last night officially announced the news that they announced they were going to announce. Guess what I was right, what a surprise. That’s right TWC are throwing their hat in to the ring with a live event planned for March 2005 with a super show at the Coventry Skydome. The event will feature stars from all the promotions featured on the channel with the first one being announced at British Uprising 3.

Now I feel like being a bit controversial as I can’t say I’m a fan of the idea. After announcing it would be the talk of the industry in Europe I for one feel it is a big let down for so many reasons. Anyone who reads this column on a weekly basis knows I am never downcast on wrestling in the UK but I have to be for this I’m afraid. Here are my list of reasons for not liking this announcement.

(1) If you wanted to be the talk of Europe surely you should be looking at putting an event on in a bigger arena that has already been used.

(2) From a personal point of view I think this show is going to be a mess with just a mix match of so called super matches.

(3) Where is the mainstream draw unfortunately these days the casual fan on the street will not know the names of so called stars of NWA:TNA and RoH.

(4) This comment about being the talking point of Europe I think is a statement used when people are trying to seem bigger than anything available in the UK and I don’t see many Europeans coming over for it and as for all over the world only the WWE can claim that.

Now will this event be a success? Possibly so, as they are probably looking at it from the point of view than they get more than 3,500 people tuning in each week so they should be able to sell it out. Myself I am looking forward to British Uprising 3 more than this supershow.

Just to end my rant on TWC the thing which really annoys me the most is the attitude shown to people who have had a negative reaction to the news. Sorry but if you do a pre-announcement and then don’t deliver the goods in some fans eyes you have to take the reaction on the chin, like I said last week if you just announced the news without this pre-announcement you wouldn’t have to deal with the negative feedback. Right rant over and back to the UK Scene.

We are now three weeks away from the second by IPW:UK on November 21st. The event should be another huge event with former CZW star “Sick” Nick Mondo coming out of retirement for one last match and he’s bringing it to us here in the UK. At the moment it is still unsure who his opponent will be but it is destined to be a feast of brutality that you don’t normally see in the UK. The event takes place again at the Orpington Halls.

IPW:UK also win my award for confusing news story this week. Here is a paragraph taken from one of their press releases:

And finally, as announced earlier today we can now confirm that the first match signed for “Show 2!” on November 21st, from Orpington is IPW:UK debutant and BCW (Scotland) up against the seemingly reformed Stevie Knight (and his muffins).

Now will even Stevie Knight’s muffins be enough to take on the whole of BCW. Only joking but if you are having a spot the mistake competition do I win free tickets? In all seriousness though it will BCW wrestler Drew Galloway squaring off against Stevie Knight.

Now I must take the time out now to applaud the efforts of FCW and WAR. As you know if you read this column a lot my ideal for the UK Scene would be to have all the British Wrestling promotions working together instead of against each other all the time. Well FCW and WAR did just that last weekend by promoting a joint show.

The event featured stars from both promotions as well as US sensation Colt Cobana. The show was promoted under the name of FCWAR which I thought was a really good touch. The event was that much of a success that these promotion will be coming together again on February the 5th to promote another joint show. Top work lads keep it up.

I have been speaking to Carl Mizzery this week and it is good news he is making a return to full time wrestling again. So his match for BRAWL was not just one off teaser he is back and back to stay so I am sure there will be a lot of happy promoters in the country that his services are available again. Glad to have you back Carl.

Now things are really starting to hot up in the run up to FWA British Uprising 3. If you watch FWA TV this week you will see the infamous confrontation between Alex Shane and Danny Williams that made the national newspapers and the anticipation grows in the run up until November 13th.

It has also been announced that Jonny Storm maybe in the building to hear in person if he has been reinstated in to the FWA who knows maybe we will be able to see an impromptu Jonny vs. Jody match which would certainly take the roof off the skydome. Jonny though must win the vote of his fellow wrestlers to stand any chance of doing anything at British Uprising 3 so the only way to find out is to be there on the night so be sure to get your tickets now and for more information on how to get them you can log on to FrontierWrestling.com.

Before I leave you all in this piece I must make a correction on last week’s column. I have been in touch with the UK Pitbulls this week and the Ashe who is currently the WAW British champion is the Dark Angel Ashe and not Ashe who was is one half of the New Breed so in the words of the Americans “My bad.”

So I shall now leave you in peace to go and read my interview with HWA head honcho Cody Hawk and to have a look at the latest UK Scene top 10s compiled by Saracen.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
