According to reports, The Sandman was drunk when he boarded the airplane for the tour of South Africa. He and agent Ricky Steamboat got into a verbal confrontation when Sandman put an unlit cigarette in his mouth. The Sandman claims he requested his WWE release from John Laurinaitis, which was granted 9/11. Prior to his release, The Sandman was penciled in for a push as a heel.
