WWE: Company To End Double SmackDown Tapings

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that with the announcement of the new WWE "Superstars" program, the double Smackdown tapings that have been running recently will most likely come to an end. WWE has been running the double tapings as a cost-cutting measure, however WGN, the network licensing the "Superstars" show, will be paying WWE a considerable amount of money which will help recoup the costs of running weekly SmackDown tapings.

Speaking of "Superstars," had this to say concerning the new first-run program: "The new program, scheduled to debut in April 2009, will give the WWE Universe the opportunity to watch Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and ECW mix it up in the ring together on one program."
