Last night on ECW on Syfy, the ECW Announce Table featured a new Color Commentator by the name Byron Saxton, who joins Josh Mathews to announce ECW every week. Saxton will replace Matt Striker on ECW as Striker will move to SmackDown to work with Todd Grisham as the SmackDown Announce Team since Jim Ross looks to be out for longer than expected. There is no word on where Matt Striker will be when J.R. does return to the job.
Byron Saxton’s real name is Bryan Kelly and worked in the WWE developmental territory, FCW, as a commentator alongside Dusty Rhodes. Saxton also has a history in broadcast news. Here is his WWE.com bio:
Starting his career on the production side of the TV news business, Byron Saxton parlayed his natural charisma and charm into a traffic reporter position on WJXT Channel 4 News in Jacksonville, Fla. While he excelled in the spot, Saxton’s real dream was to get behind the announcer’s desk for WWE. The University of Florida graduate decided to pursue his passion, honing his commentating skills under the tutelage of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. Now, Saxton is getting the opportunity to share his gift of gab with the WWE Universe in the Land of the Extreme.
