New Japan crowned a new IWGP titleholder on 15/2 at Sumo Hall, beating Kensuke Sasaki, Yuji Nagata and Genichiro Tenryu in a tournament for the vacant title. Tenzan juiced a gusher throughout all three matches.

IWGP title tournament workers announced

New Japan has announced the format for the 15/2 IWGP title tournament to crown a new champion. Masa Chono versus Genichiro Tenryu, with the winner facing Yoshihiro Takayama, and Yuji Nagata versus Tadao Yasuda, with the winner facing Hiroyoshi Tenzan, are the matches booked.

The youngest  New Japan IWGP Heavyweight champion ever was crowned on 9/12, when challenger Shinsuke Nakamura went over title holder Hiroyoshi Tenzan for the title. Tenzan’s title reign lasted less than a month.
