Welcome one and all to another escapade voyaging through the last 7 days in the UK Scene. You join us on a big wrestling weekend in Britain as the Wrestlemania Revenge UK tour tickets go on sale and the FWA bring us their first show of the year. I will also this week be talking how a British wrestler cheated death this week along with all the news and views come to expect from this fantastic little column.

So it’s with the FWA we start this week as they prepare for “New Frontiers” this Saturday (26/02). The tag line for the event is “Good things come to those who wait” so hopefully the FWA can deliver on that promise. For the FWA not to start promoting in February is nothing strange as this has turned in to a yearly thing with “New Frontiers” being the event they use to kick start another year in the FWA.

This year best friends Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm will be hoping to steal the show like Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit did at Wrestlemania 20. Jonny has got a rare but deserved chance in the main event going up against Alex Shane for the FWA heavyweight title one of the few belts Jonny has ye to capture in the FWA. Jody Fleisch has got an easier night as he is not scheduled for a match but his announcement alone could make history in the Broxbourne Civic Hall and after so long out of the game we here at wrestling101 hope he will announce his comeback to British Wrestling.

Speaking of comebacks after unfortunate personal events Zebra Kid will also be making his comeback at New Frontiers and he finally gets his chance to take one the top American headliner Chris Hero. In the past Zebra Kid has been down the pecking order when it came to getting a chance against the American talent but he has now been slingshot to the top so I hope it is one hell of a comeback for him. Also on the card in only his 4th FWA appearance Spud has got a chance to win the All England title when he goes up against “The South City Thriller” Hade Vansen.

As always we have our Brits abroad this week as Doug Williams is back in Japan competing for NOAH until early March. Doug is on an 8 date tour which is headlined by the awesome Lo-Ki. Good luck to Doug on the tour from everyone here at wrestling101 we hope it is very successful once again for you.

Before I go any further I have to give a big shout out to Brian Dixon and All Star promotions. Over the last month there have been many threads on various forums asking why we never know who is going to appear from one All Star event to the next. Well Brian has come to a compromise by putting cards for his shows up on their website BigTimeWrestlingUK.com. This is a good bit of news as Brian won’t lose money through having to re-poster and advertise for events and he won’t lose any fans but the hardcore wrestling fans are now happy. Good news all round.

Jamie Hutchinson is one lucky one man this week as he cheated death at his home. Jamie who wrestles as “Johnny Phere” left a candle alight on top of his TV set when he fell asleep on Sunday night. His family which included his younger brother Simon who wrestles at “Kid Chaos” all managed to escape the house but Jamie was taken to hospital and put on oxygen for 7 hours but was released the next day. Jamie has a big weekend this weekend as he makes his debut for FWA at “New Frontiers.”

HEW (Herts and Essex Wrestling) have announced the full card for their debut show on March 12th this week and it is looking impressive. The event is taking place at the Norman Booth recreational centre in Old Harlow and the card currently looks like this:

  • Charlie Rage Vs. Ashe

  • Purely Delicious Mike Rose Vs. Ricky Relentless

  • UK Pitbulls Vs. Jack Storm and Dave Rayne

  • Lisa Fury Vs. Minx

  • Ross Jordan Vs. Devilman Vs. Declan O Connor

  • Ricky Knight Vs. Bash

  • And an over the top Rumble

All of this for £10 a ticket it should be an awesome debut event for HEW. Good luck to HEW I hope it is a successful venture.

Following on from my column last week I was delighted to open my email inbox to receive an email from UWL owner Carol-Ann Medcalf aka Honey Ryder. I would like to thank her for taking time to explain the situation and how the closure of UWL came about. I am not going to disclose the information in that email on the Internet but I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that UWL was closed for the right reasons and the good of British wrestling. Carol-Ann chose to be unselfish in a very selfish industry and I have the utmost respect for her decision.

So this is where I leave you this week folks. Hope you were lucky enough to get your hands on some WWE tickets and I hope you all get your backsides down to FWA “New Frontiers” as it promises to bring the FWA in to 2005 with a bang.

Until next time,

Adam Sibley
